Designed to be custom ordered in any combination of nation and element, the visions were my first experience making modular molds. The two part silicone molds for the gems consist of an elemental side that contains a relief in the shape of each element, and a gem side in the shape of either a sphere or a diamond. All components were 3D modeled to be interchangeable and then printed in a combination of PLA and SLA. Each piece was then primed, sanded, and polished before being molded. The frames were also 3D modeled and printed in SLA. After priming and sanding they were molded as open face molds. The frames are cold cast in urethane resin using bronze powder, then buffed and polished. Oil paint is applied for a light coat of weathering and accents. The gems are pressure cast in a clear, UV resistant resin. After they have been heat cured, the relief in the gem is brushed with a metallic powder corresponding to the chosen element. It is then filled with tinted urethane resin and pressure cast once more. The backs of the gems are then painted with the other corresponding elemental color using a metallic acrylic. Finally the gem is glued into the frame and given an additional polish on a buffing wheel.
